HORÁCIO FERREIRA

Clarinet

Horácio Ferreira has distinguished himself by being involved in various solo and chamber music projects, becoming one of the most recognised clarinettists of his generation.

He was a “Rising Star” of the European Concert Hall Organisation, performing in concert at the most prestigious concert halls, including the Philharmonie de Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Barbican in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

Young Musician of the Year 2014 and the first clarinettist to win the medium and high level of the Prémio Jovens Músicos, Horácio also won prizes at the “Concours Debussy” in Paris, the prestigious “Prague Spring Competition” in Prague, the Concurso de Interpretação do Estoril, and was the winner of the Concurso Internacional de Clarinete “J. Pakalnis” in Vilnius, the “La Salette” Competition, and the “Ageas” New Talents Award. He received the merit badge from the Santa Comba Dão Municipality and the Revelation Award from the “Anim’Art” magazine.

Horácio Ferreira‘s career has taken him to various European countries, including China, Brazil, the USA, Dubai, and Israel. He has appeared as a soloist with the Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, Filarmónica Checa, Koln Chamber Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Atenas State Orchestra, Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa, Orquestra XXI, Banda Sinfónica de Tenerife, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, among others. He is a member of the “ars ad hoc” ensemble, exploring different possibilities in chamber music. He has recorded for RDP/RTP, France Musique, Catalan Radio, and Hungarian Television.

Graduating from the Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espetáculo in António Saiote’s class; he was a scholarship of the Fundação Gulbenkian at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid, where he studied with Michel Arrignon and in Paris with Nicolas Baldeyrou. He is currently a doctoral student at the Universidade de Aveiro and a professor.

Horácio Ferreira is a Vandoren artist and founder of the Art’Ventus Quintet. Since 2018, he has become the artistic advisor of the Festival Internacional de Música de Marvão.
