JOANA CIPRIANO

Viola Professor

Joana Cipriano began her musical studies at age 6 in the class of Professor António Ramos. She finished the Instrument Course, in 2004, at the Professional School of Arts of Beira Interior, with the same teacher.

She completed a Degree in Violin at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, in the class of Professor António Anjos, and in the Chamber Music class of Professors Irene Lima and Olga Prats. She finished her Master’s Degree in Music (violin) at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, in the class of teachers António Anjos and Alexandra Mendes. She collaborated with the Superior National Academy of Orchestra in the Chamber Music discipline in the class of Professor Paul Wakabayashi.

In 1995 she was a finalist, in the initiation violin class, at the Juventude Musical Portuguesa Contest. In 2005 she received an honourable mention in the “Júlio Cardona” bow competition. In 2006 she participated in the «Young Musicians Prize», in the Chamber Music category (upper level), obtaining the 2nd prize.

She attended masterclasses with renowned international teachers and interpreters. From 1998 to 2002, she participated in Semaine Internationale de Musique, under the direction of Richard Hortien. In 2003, at the same stage, she played the Beethoven Concerto in D Major. She was concertmaster for the 2002 Orchestra of Music Schools, directed by the conductor Vasco Pearce de Azevedo. That year, she was a member of the 4th National Stage of the APROARTE Orchestra, under the direction of Ernest Schelle.

Joana is a violist and founding member of the ArtZen quartet, and Camerata Alma Mater

She is currently a violist with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, teaches at the Music School of the National Conservatory and at the Metropolitan Professional School.
