BIOGRAPHY
Born in Vila do Conde, Francisco Luís Vieira graduated from the School of Music of the National Conservatory of Lisbon, under the guidance of Professor Lopes da Cruz, having also studied with Professors Santos Pinto and Ricardo Lopes, and later at the Superior School of Music in Lisbon, in Professor Andrew Swinnerton’s class.
Francisco attended several improvement courses in Portugal and abroad.
In 1988 he won the 1st Prize in the Portuguese Musical Youth Contest and the 1st Prize in the Young Portuguese Musicians Contest, which allowed him to perform as a concert artist in the extinct Symphonic Orchestra of the R.D.P, under the direction of Maestro Silva Pereira.
As a concert artist, he also performed with the Orchestra of Music Schools, Portuguese Musical Youth Orchestra, Youth Symphony Orchestra, Lisbon Symphony, National Republican Guard Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Band.
In the 1989 season he was a soloist in the Orchester de Jeunes de la Meditérranée, under the direction of Maestro Michel Tabachnik, in France.
Francisco regularly joined, as a guest, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra, the Orchestra of the National Theater of S. Carlos, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, New Portuguese Philharmonic and Regie Symphony Orchestra of Porto. He recently collaborated with the Macao Orchestra.
Francisco Luís Vieira has performed numerous solo and chamber music recitals.
Throughout his career, he has worked in mainland Portugal, Azores and Madeira, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Romania, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Sweden.
He took classes in orchestral conducting with conductor Jean-Sébastien Béreau.
Francisco was professor of oboe at the Coimbra Music Conservatory, the Almada Music Academy, the Castelo Branco Regional Conservatory, the Seia Collegium Musicum, the Lisbon Metropolitan Conservatory of Music, the Superior National Academy of Orchestra, the Évora University, at the Nossa Senhora do Cabo Music School (Linda-a-Velha) and at the D. Dinis Music Conservatory.
He was a soloist/head of the section in the Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Band of the Guarda Nacional Republicana.
Francisco is often invited to join several Portuguese orchestras. He has given several improvement courses/masterclasses all over the country. He has been a suitable advisor in several workshops/internships/festivals of youth orchestras, as well as being a judge in some competitions.
He is the founder and director of Ensemble Palhetas Duplas.
Francisco is a professor of oboe at the Covilhã Music Conservatory and at the S. José da Guarda Music Conservatory.
He teaches oboe, chamber music and wind orchestra at EPABI-Escola Profissional de Artes da Covilhã, where he holds the position of artistic director.
