Cello Master Class

Matias was born in São Paulo where he began his musical studies. In 1980, he moved to Berlin on a scholarship from the Herbert von Karajan Foundation. In Europe, he studied at the Berlin Higher School of Music (HdK) and at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest.

A highly sought-after pedagogue, Matias is a professor of cello at the University of the Arts in Berlin, at the Münster Faculty of Music and frequently teaches master classes in several countries. He has toured extensively in the US, several countries in South America, throughout Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, as well as performing at important festivals.

Artistic Director of the Celloherbst Festival, in Germany, Matias has also performed as a conductor in several European countries. In Berlin, he performs at the most important concert halls in the city, such as the Philharmonie, Konzerthaus, Appollo-Saal Der Staatsoper, among others. He has recorded CDs on the European labels Academy, Kreuzberg Records, Bella Musica, Hungaroton Classics and Cello Colors.
